Social Emotional and Wellbeing Worker (50D) South West Aboriginal Medical Service

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Worker reports to and is directly accountable to the Clinical Lead and is responsible for providing support in the delivery of Social and Emotional Wellbeing care to our SWAMS clients. The SEWB Worker will focus on providing support to people in communities where there is a SWAMS clinic, to strengthen their social and emotional wellbeing in a variety of ways including connection to health services and culturally appropriate activities.

Specific requirements of this position include but are not limited to;

Essential Criteria

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent under section 50(d) Equal Opportunity Act.
  • Able to communicate sensitively with aboriginal and Torres strait islanders
  • Demonstrated understanding of the inter-generational impacts of Stolen Generation policies
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and ability to work with Aboriginal and culturally diverse people.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering Programs and Activities, either one on one or group setting
  • Experience in the direct care delivery and care coordination services for mental health, alcohol and other drugs, suicide prevention, counselling, housing, family domestic violence or other social supports.
  • Demonstrated high level of written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with stakeholders
  • Current Drivers licence and ability to travel throughout the South West Region

Desirable Criteria

  • Cert IV (or willing to obtain) in – Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs, Youth Work, Community Services or related field.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislative requirements
  • Experience in Community or Aboriginal Health
  • Willing to undertake further studies to obtain further qualifications in SEWB field such as counselling, social work etc.

All candidates must have a current WA Driver’s License and will be required to undertake a have a Police Clearance or NDIS Worker Screening check prior to employment.

The preferred candidate will also be required to provide a clear drug and alcohol screen prior to offer of employment.
