Remuneration Benefits include:

  • Base Salary $62,000 – $90,000 
  • 11% Superannuation
  • up to $15,900 Salary Sacrifice, plus $2,650 entertainment benefits
  • $13,000 Housing Allowance
  • $1,000 Electricity Allowance (Oct-Feb)
  • $1,000 Annual Airfare Allowance, after 12 months continuous employment
  • $3,055 (single) District Allowance
  • 4 weeks annual leave + leave loading
  • 1 weeks Northwest Leave
  • 37.5 Hour working week, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.45pm

About Mawarnkarra Health Service (MHS)

Mawarnkarra (MHS) is the largest primary health care provider providing direct services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living in the Roebourne area. MHS provides the families of Roebourne with a fully functional and accredited Clinic that treats approximately 3,000 people per year.

The Position

The role of the Social Emotional Well-Being Support Worker is to provide support to Aboriginal people to improve their knowledge of healthy lifestyle behaviours and influence a positive change in behaviour on an individual and group level.  The role focuses on: 

  •  Creating and delivering programs that inform and improve knowledge of risk-taking behaviours in a group setting. 
  • Tailoring program delivery for individual clients to improve and increase positive behaviour changes for Mawarnkarra clients. 
  • Improving knowledge of behavioural risk factors for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 
  • Measuring positive healthy lifestyle behaviour changes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 
  • Measuring increased positive behaviours related to connection to Country, family and/or community 

The role aims to provide group education and individual to achieve the above in line with the program plan and key performance indicators.   

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES 

  • Knowledge and experience in risk taking behaviours and how to influence a change in behaviour at a group and individual level. 
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. 
  • Developed oral and interpersonal communications skills. 
  • Ability to develop program materials and confidence to present activities to large groups 
  • Ability to identify and negotiate complex issues with clients. 
  • Ability to use computer and data entry systems. 
  • Ability to identify situations where a more senior staff member is required for assistance. 
  • Ability to prioritise workload and demonstrated organisational skills. 
  • Capacity to liaise with and develop meaningful relationships with Aboriginal people in Roebourne and surrounding areas. 
  • Understanding of cultural factors and ability to work with cultural sensitivity when working together with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander clients. 
  • Commitment to ongoing participation in education, professional development, evidence based research and quality assurance. 

DUTIES 

Provide individual and group education to support improving knowledge of behavioural risk factors (drugs, alcohol, bullying, lack of activity, depression and so on) for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 

  • Plan program work with assistance and approval from management 
  • Identify appropriate target audiences, based on evidence and direction from management towards those groups that have knowledge improvement needs 
  • Develop program materials based on evidence (with support from subject matter experts) 
  • Ensure program material is reviewed, following relevant Policy prior to presentation 
  • Record group and individual education within Communicare as directed by management 

Undertake activities that support positive healthy lifestyle behaviour changes and / or positive behaviours related to connection to Country, family and/or community for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people 

  • Plan program work with assistance and approval from management 
  • Identify appropriate target audiences, based on evidence and direction from management towards those groups that have knowledge improvement needs 
  • Develop program activities and materials based on evidence (with support from subject matter experts) 
  • Ensure program activities and material are reviewed, following relevant Policy prior to presentation 
  • Record activities within Communicare as directed by management 
  • Undertake support, to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands around increasing their knowledge of behavioural risk factors and support positive healthy lifestyle behaviour 
  • Record group and individual client assistance within Communicare 
  • Utilise patient alerts and To Do list within Communicare to support & achieve positive health outcomes 
  • Undertake promotion of the Social Emotional Wellbeing program utilising relevant media platforms. 
  • Assist the wider MHS team with planning, coordinating and delivering community events and health promotion activities as required.

  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Current Working with Children’s Check & Police Clearance or willing to obtain
  • Current CPR Certificate
  • COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate, (Requirement to be triple vax as per the WA Government mandate for all health care workers)
  • All employees are subject to regular and random drug & alcohol testing
