Social Justice Advocate (Mental Health) (Part-time) HB Group (Qld) Pty Ltd

JOB DESCRIPTION

An excellent opportunity currently exists with a Toowoomba-based Employer of Choice in the Not-for-Profit sector for a Social Justice Advocate (Mental Health) to provide high-quality advice, advocacy and referral services to people with mental ill health.  This role is part-time, ideally three (3) or four (4) days per week.

The Social Justice Advocate (Mental Health) with undertake advocacy for clients by increasing the knowledge and understanding of their rights, obligations and entitlements regarding relevant issues, as well as:

  • Advocating on behalf of clients to a range of external agencies, where appropriate
  • Providing community education sessions to community and other groups on mental health, disability issues and NDIS
  • Supporting and representing clients at the relevant Tribunals, where appropriate
  • Developing and maintaining appropriate links with the community and participating in broader disability consultative and networking processes
  • Developing and maintaining caseloads and providing regular statistical reports to funders
  • Maintaining records on the client service database and client files

Applicants for this role should possess the following skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Experience in the provision of advocacy or mental health within a community organisation or relevant field 
  • Hold a current, unrestricted class QLD Driver’s Licence
  • Hold or be eligible to obtain a Positive Notice for Working with Children and receive a Positive Notice from Disability Services Queensland based on criminal history screening
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate with and relate to people from diverse cultural, linguistic and socio-economic backgrounds and people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities
  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Human Services and/or related field or a Certificate IV or Diploma in Disability/Community Services/Mental Health (desirable but not essential)
