About the facility
Barwon Health’s Mental Health Drugs and Alcohol Services (MHDAS) provides integrated and recovery oriented mental health, drugs and alcohol assessment, treatment and community support to people of all ages within the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and drug & alcohol issues, and their families.
The Swanston Centre is a 32-bed acute psychiatric admission unit providing Recovery Orientated care delivery for people aged 18 and over, experiencing the effects of major mental illness/distress.
About you
- Degree in Social Work from an accredited course
- Eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- Understanding and commitment to Recovery Orientated delivery of care
- Proven assessment skills in the treatment and care of people with a major mental illness
- Sound knowledge of the ethical, theoretical and practicable foundations and principles applicable to Social Work intervention in an inpatient setting
- Well-developed knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1986 as amended, and other legislation relevant to those with mental illness
About the role
As the successful applicant you will form part of a therapeutic team delivering group, family and individual interventions to the client group. You will have a specific focus on people with complex needs, including working with the community case manager/primary nurses and relevant community services on issues of housing, employment, financial matters, family (including dependent children), peer relationships and social isolation due to the impact of trauma, stigma and discrimination.
