Social Worker (Alcohol and Other Drugs) Umoona Tjutagku Health Service Aboriginal Corporation

JOB DESCRIPTION

The incumbent in this position will work predominantly with Aboriginal people who have an identifiable drug and alcohol dependency, and/or concerned parents, significant others, schools and industry. The incumbent will have knowledge of the local Aboriginal community. 

The incumbent must seek to achieve the following outcomes for clients: 

  • Improved overall health and wellbeing for people who are affected by drugs and alcohol, with an understanding of the effects of drugs and alcohol on their lives; 
  • Increased understanding of client’s own competency to build on acquired knowledge to make changes in their lives; 
  • Provide drug and alcohol counselling which will improve their quality of life and meet their needs; 
  • Develop a client centred approach to counselling and treatment that will enable the client to set realistic goals for his/her treatment outcomes;
  • Improve client access to appropriate drug and alcohol treatment programs that address drug and alcohol misuse for others in the community, and 
  • Improve information, networking, education and awareness in relation to drug and alcohol use.
  • Responsible to the Drug and Alcohol Services Manager. The incumbent works with the Program Team and implements the services and programs of UTHSAC Strategic Plan and Action Plans 
  • Develops, maintains supports and works collaboratively with less experienced members of the health care team 
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team maintaining a cooperative and productive working relationship with members of the healthcare team.
  • Will be required to work closely with other health care professionals contributing to the achievement of best practice
