The incumbent in this position will work predominantly with Aboriginal people who have an identifiable drug and alcohol dependency, and/or concerned parents, significant others, schools and industry. The incumbent will have knowledge of the local Aboriginal community.
The incumbent must seek to achieve the following outcomes for clients:
- Improved overall health and wellbeing for people who are affected by drugs and alcohol, with an understanding of the effects of drugs and alcohol on their lives;
- Increased understanding of client’s own competency to build on acquired knowledge to make changes in their lives;
- Provide drug and alcohol counselling which will improve their quality of life and meet their needs;
- Develop a client centred approach to counselling and treatment that will enable the client to set realistic goals for his/her treatment outcomes;
- Improve client access to appropriate drug and alcohol treatment programs that address drug and alcohol misuse for others in the community, and
- Improve information, networking, education and awareness in relation to drug and alcohol use.
- Responsible to the Drug and Alcohol Services Manager. The incumbent works with the Program Team and implements the services and programs of UTHSAC Strategic Plan and Action Plans
- Develops, maintains supports and works collaboratively with less experienced members of the health care team
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team maintaining a cooperative and productive working relationship with members of the healthcare team.
- Will be required to work closely with other health care professionals contributing to the achievement of best practice
