Permanent Part-Time

  • Permanent Part time 20 hours per week with an additional 8 hours per week until January 2025 providing leave coverage. 
  • Salary Classification: Social Worker Level 3 Year 1-2.
  • Remuneration: $54.76-$56.54 Per hour, excluding superannuation. 
  • Wednesdays & Fridays are required, other days to be negotiated with preferred candidate.

About the role

The Social Worker (Level 3) is responsible for the provision of Social Work services and the maintenance of professional Social Work standards. You will provide Social Work services to patients, clients and their families as well as, liaison with internal and external health care professionals. To be successful in this role, you will contribute to the development of policies, procedures and services in the Social Work Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate discharge planning in consultation with multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide comprehensive psychosocial assessments of patients attending the hospital.
  • Provide support, counselling and other evidence-based intervention strategies to enhance social functioning.
  • Maintaining a high standard of written communication, with accurate clinical record entries and documentation.

What you bring

  • Advanced knowledge and skills in psychosocial theory and assessment.
  • Demonstrated advanced organisational, interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with patients and their carers with life-limiting and/ or terminal illnesses, including at end of life.
  • Experience in a hospital setting and ability to undertake high level assessment and brief intervention skills within this setting.
  • Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent qualification providing eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Work.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide staff supervision and demonstrated commitment to own personal and professional development.

The Calvary Mater Newcastle is an Affiliated Health Organisation providing services to both public and private patients primarily from the Hunter New England area. Current employees of NSW Health can request to have various leave entitlement balances transferred to Calvary Mater Newcastle on commencement.
