About the Hospital

Essendon Private Clinic is a 32 bed General Mental Health facility in Essendon, Melbourne.  The facility cares for private clients that are managed by their chosen treating psychiatrist and admitted for depression, anxiety, bipolar and other general mental health issues.  The facility provides inpatient and outpatient programs, as well as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatment.

Essendon Private Clinic supports the local and extended community with all aspects of General mental health needs.  EPC continues to provide high quality healthcare outcomes in a supportive, warm and dynamic therapeutic environment.  The highly skilled team of EPC continually develop and incorporate new and developing programs to ensure we deliver high quality and dynamic private Mental Health programs.  The clinicians of EPC welcome new and return referrals, supporting the GP and emergency services in the northern suburbs.

The Role:

The social worker will support patient management through an appointment schedule, the facility will maintain a diary of appointments as per referral our psychiatrists. 

The social worker will work with the multidisciplinary team and support EPC commitment to therapeutic excellence with strong delivery of planning and coordination to assist the individual. The social worker will dedicate 4-8 hours a week in practice at EPC, to consult patients requiring support with family/relationships, housing, employment, Workcover and legal issues.  The social worker will support the patient and involve next of kin/carers as per the patient consent.

This role will be invited to participate in the team supervision every four weeks and will report to the program manager.  The contractor will be responsible for independent billing to MBS, Workcover, TAC or NDIS and management of ensuring staff are aware of availability for sessions.

Successful applicant will possess:

  • Hold a degree in social work that is accredited by Aus. Assoc. Social Workers.
  • Maintains compliance with AASW continuing professional development guidelines and membership. 
  • Dynamic allied health professional who is passionate about contributing to the health of mental health patients in the acute setting.
  • Demonstrate commitment to and ability to practice utilising the recovery approach in mental health treatment and support.
  • Approach should include collaboration with MDT, admitting psychiatrists and consumers support network as per client consent.
  • Ability to provide social work assessments and interventions.
  • Well developed knowledge of the mental health act and other relevant legislation, policies, plans and strategic interventions in mental health in Victoria.
  • Good organisational, documentation and communication skills.
  • Exposure to the hospital settings, public or private
