Your role:

There are multiple positions vacant for highly motivated social workers across the North Queensland region. Locations where positions are vacant include: Hughenden, Richmond, Doomadgee, Normanton, Charters Towers, Cloncurry and Townsville City.

We know that early intervention is key to reducing the impact of mental health problems and mental illness and that schools play an important role in early detection and provision of support. This role comes from the Queensland Government’s commitment to providing wellbeing and mental health support to students in response to a rise in the prevalence and complexity of children and young people’s mental health concerns.

The purpose of this role is to deliver high quality support services to Queensland state school students with mild to moderate mental health concerns. As a specialist member of a multi-disciplinary team working in a school, you will connect with students, staff, parents, carers and the broader community.

As the Social Worker in one or multiple North Queensland schools you will:

  • Operate in an advisory and advocacy capacity providing services specific to the social work discipline.
  • Respond to the needs of the student population and school community to provide personal and familycounselling, therapy and group work, facilitation of referrals to other allied health professionals, andservice and care coordination for the purpose of assisting student’s wellbeing and mental health.

This is a PO2 progression position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the PO2 classification with eligibility for progression to the PO3 once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. Please note salary rate shown is reflective of PO2 to PO3 classification range.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Possession of tertiary qualifications in Social Work and eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
