Social Worker or Therapist (Equine Program) The Life You Want Pty Ltd

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job description

We are aiming to build nothing less than the most effective disability services provider in Adelaide’s South. Ranging from Cross Road to the Fleurieu Peninsula, we wish to give exceptional people the chance to be a vital part of a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to equity and capability building for our clients.

We’ll pay well, of course, but what we really hope to inspire you with is:

  • We’ll listen to you when you tell us about the clients you are assisting
  • We’ll treat you with respect
  • We’ll offer you a chance to extend your own capabilities
  • You’ll be recognised for the importance of what you do

So, what’s the job? Our Horse Centred Wellbeing program has led the way as an option for people who want to learn stuff, to feel better, to reduce maladaptive behaviours and to just enjoy hanging with horses. This led to our custom-designed Equine Therapy offering. This job is part of that team.

Each team consists of a Mentor and a Social Worker (and a horse). Clients are assisted to understand their situation and make real steps towards improvement in their capability/capacity.

So what about you?

Well, you have to have a Social Work Qualification. Other than that, you might have a First Aid certificate, but it’s not mandatory and we can even help you get one. You’ll have to pass a bunch of worker/police checks, but you probably already have.
More than the above, you’ll have a great enthusiasm for helping others. You’ll be cool in a crisis. You’ll be almost obsessed with being reliable and punctual. You’ll be the sort of person that can pull apart any mistakes you make and ensure they don’t happen twice. You’ll be able to communicate with anyone. You’ll be a roll-up-your-sleeves, no-time-like-the-present doer, not a bystander.

And you’ll need experience with horses, and to be comfortable working with them. Even though you’ll be assisted by a safety officer each session, we do need solid familiarity with these beautiful creatures.

We will consider visa sponsorship for the right person.

What’s different about Heartfelt Support? For starters, every staff member is assigned to a Director. You’ll have the mobile number and direct access to someone who will mentor, advise and guide you and to whom you can raise any urgent issues. You’ll never feel like an unimportant cog in the machinery of red tape. We’ll also take into account your requirements for flexibility and we will understand that your own life and responsibilities are important.

We’d really enjoy a short cover letter telling us about YOU – what makes you tick. We’re not just interested in what you’ve done but what you’d like to do in the future, and how and why if you feel like sharing.

We are also totally committed to diversity and encourage anyone who has a disability, is a first nations’ person, is of any or no particular gender or sexuality to apply. Tell us about it, or don’t. It’s your choice.

So, if being helpful and needed floats your boat, then here’s what we suggest:

  • Apply!

This is a casual role beginning with limited hours. It will grow as we grow, but we know there will be many more hours on offer by the end of this year.
