JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Women’s and Children’s Health Network, Country South Team, Child and Family Health Service, Mount Barker
  • Salary – Classification – AHP2 – Allied Health Professional L2 – $86,950 to $100,729 pro rata
  • Employment Part time (0.6 FTE / 22.5 hrs per week) – Ongoing Permanent

Overview

The Women’s & Children’s Health Network provides state of the art health care for women, babies, children and young people across South Australia.  We are the state’s leading provider of specialist care for children with acute and chronic conditions as well as being SA’s largest maternity and obstetric service. 

Our community-based services also reach hundreds of thousands of babies, children and young people, their families and communities across South Australia through our various services and programs in areas such as our Mental Health, Child & Family Health services, Youth Health and Aboriginal Health services.

The Child and Family Health Service (CaFHS) is a free statewide service that supports parents and families of children from birth to five years of age, who live across metropolitan, regional and rural areas in South Australia.

With over 100 clinics across South Australia, CaFHS helps parents and families to understand their child’s health, development, and wellbeing needs, which can include breastfeeding, sleeping, settling, introducing solids, parenting and play and development. Each year, CaFHS provides over 75,000 family consultations  via in clinic or at home appointments, telehealth (phone) or virtually.

South Australia records approximately 20,000 births each year and CaFHS offers an in home initial 4 health and development check at 1 to 4 weeks of age, to support the infant and family’s health, wellbeing and development. Further health and development checks are offered at 6-8 weeks, 6-9 months, 18-24 months, 3 years and 4 to 5 years. For children with ongoing or complex needs, CaFHS can refer families to other healthcare and community service supports.

The Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Country South team as a Social Worker in a Part time (0.6 FTE / 22.5 hours per week), ongoing basis.

The CaFHS Social Worker works as part of a multidisciplinary team to improve the early identification, assessment and care planning for families with complex needs and facing adversity.

As the CaFHS Social Worker you will work with parents who face challenges through the provision of individual counselling, advocacy and support.  You will encourage the best use of individual and family strengths and resources by working in partnerships with the caregiver/family to

  • Increase coping skills
  • Better develop problem solving skills
  • Feel positive about their future
  • Gain a better understanding of where to seek resources/information in the future

About You

To be eligible you must  have an appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

To be successful in this role, you will use your well developed ability to undertake comprehensive psychosocial assessment of families with young children utilising contemporary best practice frameworks.

You should have experience in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating complex interventions including group work aimed at addressing psychosocial need in families with children aged 0 to 3 years.

If you have relevant social work theories and models including an understanding of strengths-based approach, its application and group work processes, theory and practice, then this role is for you and you are strongly encouraged to apply.
