The Health and Wellbeing team at Soldier On provide a variety of person-centred, holistic services to veterans and their family members presenting with complex needs. We provide intensive ongoing face to face and telehealth psychology services to individuals, adolescents, and families, depending on the need. We also contribute to the development and delivery of a variety of group programs delivered by our Social Connections team, held at weekend retreats across Australia.
Your New Role
A new and exciting opportunity for 22.8 hrs per week is now available for a Social Worker to join our friendly and supportive Health & Wellbeing team at Soldier On.
Under the guidance of internal and external supervision, you will be presenting group programs for our veteran clients, working alongside our Social Connections team to support the delivery of their weekend well being retreats. This role will require extensive travel and weekend work. Additionally, it will entail working alongside other teams within Soldier On and other ESOs to support individuals to build resilience and create meaningful connections with family, community, and employers.
This position will be an integral member of our multi-disciplinary Psychology Services team and will report to the Health and Well Being Director.
To be considered applicants must hold as a minimum a bachelor’s degree in social work, with at least two years’ experience. Extensive experience working with individuals and families impacted by trauma is essential for this position. Previous experience working with veterans is desirable.
About You

- Committed to child safety and wellbeing, adhering to SO Code of Conduct and Child Safety Standards.
- You will have a current registration as on Social Worker with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), as well as two years minimum experience.
- You will have a comprehensive understanding of trauma informed care including theoretical perspectives such as attachment, resilience, connectedness, impact of trauma on development and a capacity to apply a range evidence informed responses based on these theories.
- Willingness to work some weekends and travel interstate.
- Highly developed capacity to engage risk management skills in effective and flexible ways.
- Able to develop, plan and deliver psychological education, workshops, and programs to clients and wider audiences.
- Experience in delivering a wide variety of educational content, e.g. AOD, mental health, suicide awareness, trauma, military-induced separations (deployment), or resilience.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to further Soldier On goals and values, including linking clients in with other SO services including education, employment, and social connection programs.
- Strong interest in working with military members and their families, in helping them to navigate both military and civilian health and welfare systems.
- Able to work flexibly, autonomously, and in a small-team environment.
