About us

Corrections Victoria’s purpose is to deliver an effective corrections system for a safe community. Community Correctional Services (CCS), is overseen by Corrections Victoria, a division of the Department of Justice and Community Safety. CCS is responsible for the management and supervision of prisoners on parole, clients under post sentence supervision and court orders.

CCS is currently experiencing rapid growth in the offender population. In response to this, Corrections Victoria will embed evidence based practice across all areas of our work and target responses to the areas that will allow the greatest impacts to be made. This approach will contribute to a safer community and strengthen CCS for the future.

About the role

As the Specialist Case Manager based in Cranbourne, you will be responsible for delivering high quality case management to a caseload of the highest priority sex and violent offenders under correctional supervision. SCMs are responsible for ensuring that the nature of serious offender management aligns with best practice initiatives, including managing offenders using strengths-based case management approaches and dynamic risk assessment in line with Corrections Victoria’s Offender Management Framework.

You will contribute to a strengthened and integrated through-care approach, including transition from imprisonment to community, through close partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, with an overarching emphasis on community safety. You will also provide advice and mentoring to other correctional staff who are supervising lower priority sex offenders and contribute to the review of the operationalisation of the role. This is a full time, fixed term position through to 30 June 2023.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • experience in advanced case management of highly complex individuals, including proven needs assessment and intervention skills
  • experience working within a legislative framework
  • excellent written communication skills including the ability to prepare complex reports and Departmental and Ministerial briefings
  • strong conflict management skills providing guidance to staff, addressing concerns and defusing emotionally charged situations.

A tertiary qualification in an appropriate discipline is also desirable.
