Parkville College is a multi-campus college spanning the Parkville Youth Justice Precinct, the Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct, the Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct, The O-Street Flexible Learning Campus and the Secure Care Sites in Maribyrnong and Ascot Vale. It is the only Victorian Government School that operates 52 weeks per year.
Parkville College is a registered specialist school that delivers senior secondary certificates for all children and young people detained in the custody of the Department of Justice and Community Safety and Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.
The Parkville College Model follows a culturally responsive pedagogy that supports the development and growth of all students, offering the Vocational Major (VM) and Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC). In recognition of the custodial environment and existing educational disadvantage, the school program includes weekends and term breaks to enhance the learning opportunities for the children and young people in Custody and Secure Services.
Selection Criteria
SC1. Qualifications, knowledge or experience relevant to supporting the wellbeing needs of employees working in complex settings.
SC2. Demonstrated evidence of implementing culturally responsive, trauma-informed approaches and frameworks to support wellbeing and capacity-building.
SC3. Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver individual and group wellbeing sessions in a range of contexts.
SC4. Demonstrated experience working systemically with young people and/or families.
SC5. Demonstrated ability to develop support plans and/or treatment plans for staff members requiring intensive wellbeing support.
SC6. Parkville College is guided by an evidence based, culturally responsive pedagogy. Provide an example from your experience, that demonstrates your understanding and implementation of Culturally Responsive Practice.
Role
Staff Wellbeing Support
Parkville College recognises that it serves a population of young people who have experienced, and continue to experience, interpersonal and sociopolitical adversity and trauma. For this reason, Parkville College has an established staff wellbeing program that offers group and individual wellbeing support to all staff to prevent the potential for vicarious traumatisation, cumulative harm and stress associated with the workplace.
Parkville College is committed to increasing the diversity of its workforce and acknowledges that this development must be accompanied by school wide cultural safety practices and targeted supports. For this reason, Parkville College follows a Culturally Responsive Pedagogy. This position will provide individual and group sessions across the Metro campuses, Malmsbury Campus, and Cherry Creek Campus. It will report to the Metro Campus Principal, and will include some work during the school holidays.
Department of Education Dimensions of Work for Education Support Staff outlines the following roles/responsibilities.
Will usually be a member of the leadership team who is accountable for the development and delivery of key services that are integral to the effective operation of a school/s. Provides a range of services and/or undertakes the analysis of complex problems that form part of the policy framework.
A school or group of schools would need to have the necessary diversity and complexity to create a role at range 5. Management of a major school or district initiative, project or Department targeted strategy would be an indicator depending on the breadth of management responsibilities.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee’s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
- Management of the delivery and quality of professional staff wellbeing support to intern support student wellbeing e.g. therapist, psychological
- Provision of group and individual wellbeing programs to Parkville College staff
- Provision of advice and support to Parkville College leadership teams in relation to the wellbeing needs of staff members
- Capacity to deliver staff wellbeing programs across the all Parkville College campus sites.
- Assessment and treatment planning for staff members experiencing stress associated with the workplace.
- Provision of critical incident and stress management interventions
- Development and delivery of a range of professional development activities that enhance the Parkville College Model
- Collection and analysis of staff wellbeing data.
