The University of Newcastle is looking for a dedicated Student Advocate to join our team and play a pivotal role in providing exceptional support and advocacy for our diverse student body.
As a Student Advocate at the University of Newcastle, you will be responsible for providing an independent advocacy service to students across all campuses. Your primary goal will be to ensure effective, efficient, and timely resolution of issues that students may encounter during their academic journey. You will play a crucial role in managing the early resolution process, offering guidance, policy advice, and advocacy to help students navigate challenges and reach constructive resolutions.
This role emphasizes customer-focused service delivery, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
This ongoing position is full time at a HEW 7 Higher Education Level and will be based at Callaghan Campus (Awabakal and Worimi land)

About the Unit
The Student Wellbeing unit is tasked with ensuring that students have access to an integrated and coordinated program of support and risk management for academic and non-academic matters. The focus of this unit is on proving health, wellbeing, and mental health services and support for students, along with support for AccessAbility initiatives to help students navigate a smooth and successful journey throughout their studies.

- A degree and subsequent relevant experience including education/training in advocacy and experience and knowledge of contemporary issue and complaint management and resolution.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills including the capacity to build relationships and an inter-disciplinary way of working
- Demonstrated achievement in the provision of high quality case management, advocacy, advisory and support services including a demonstrated ability to multitask, set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently whilst also being able to work cooperatively as a part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to develop innovative approaches to issue resolution and operate effectively in an environment of continuous change and business performance improvement, with a specific focus on and commitment to student service/care.
- Proven high level analytical skills, problem solving and decision making with sound judgement and reasoning skills using policy, guidelines and precedence as a guide.
- Demonstrated competence in the management and resolution of conflict, including the ability to negotiate between parties to reach an agreed outcome, and to maintain confidentiality and privacy within the workplace.
- Proven high-order computer skills including the use of the Microsoft Office Suite of products and Adobe Acrobat
- Knowledge of, and experience in adhering to workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture
