JOB DESCRIPTION

As a leading provide RTO in Western Australia, APSI currently is looking for an experienced, motivated and personable Student Counsellor to join our student services team in East Perth campus.

This position is mainly to provide personal, educational, vocational and welfare counselling support to assist students in achieving positive educational, developmental and learning outcomes.

Main duties and responsibilities

1.Provide Support services to students: Offer personal counseling to students dealing with emotional and behavioral issues.

2 Provide .Academic Guidance and study skills : Assist with academic goal-setting and study skills improvement.

3.Provide Career Counseling: Provide guidance to students on future career and job opportunities in the industry sectors 

4.Organise Job Ready Workshops: Conduct workshops on topics like stress management and interpersonal skills.

5.Handle Crisis Management: Handle emergencies and crisis as needed. Conduct Risk assessment whenever necessary

6.Collaboration with other stakeholders: Work closely with trainers, parents, and staff members to foster a supportive learning environment.

7.Assessment on individual student needs : Identify students in need of additional support and conduct assessments when necessary.

8.Referrals: Refer students to external professionals when specialized help is required.

9.Documentation: Maintain confidential records of counselling sessions according to organisation’s policy and procedures

10.Advocacy: Advocate for student well-being and implement preventive programs.

The ideal candidate should be highly motivated individual with a “can-do” attitude.

  • Advanced computer and data entry skills and familiarise with student management system
  • Experience to work in a diverse environment with students from a cultural and linguistic diverse background
  • Previous experience in a similar role with an RTO or in a school environment would be an advantage
  • Experience in related area in an educational setting
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), fluent in a second Language is an advantage
  • Awareness of cultural diversity amongst a student cohort, and ability to work with and understand the needs of a people from a wide range of ages/backgrounds.
  • An ability to prioritise and multi-task within periods of fluctuating workload intensity
