JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: Broadmeadows

Role Type: Part Time Fixed Term (0.6 FTE 12 months) – Required Days: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

 

About The Role:

Reporting to the Team Leader Student Support, the Student Counsellor will provide counselling services to students who are experiencing personal difficulties. You will essentially help them overcome their challenging problems and make appropriate changes to positively impact their lives. The services provided will be confidential yet tailored to meet individual students’ needs.

As a Student Counsellor, you will be performing a highly collaborative role that would require you to liaise internally (students, staff, other departments) and externally (welfare professionals, medical care, family etc). You will be required to stay abreast of the best practice methodologies and legal rulings to deliver a arrange of services such as counselling, and advisory services.

We are excited about you because you have:

  • Tertiary qualification, preferably in counselling, psychology, social work, or welfare; with eligibility for membership to one or more of the following:
  1. Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA)
  2. Australian Counselling Association (ACA)
  3. Australian Psychological Society (APS) or
  4. Australian Association of Social Welfare (AASW)
  • Evidence of training in or familiarity with a range of relevant therapies
  • Experience in the conduct of group work and knowledge of group work theory with two to three-year experiences in a similar position.
  • Strong understanding and familiarity with the Working with Children Act 2005, the Child Wellbeing and Safety Amendment Act 2016 and the Child Safe Standards
  • Fluency in Arabic or Ethiopian (highly desirable)
  • Current Drivers Licence

Things we will require from you:

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC) A candidate must have an approved employee WWCC prior to being able to start work at Kangan Institute / Bendigo TAFE                       
  • Current Police Check
  • Certified Right to Work document – Passport/Visa/Citizenship or Birth Certificate
  • Certified vocational qualifications and certified transcripts (as listed in Resume and relevant to the position)
  • COVID-19 vaccination certificate or a valid medical exemption
