About the Opportunity:
John Paul College is currently seeking an experienced and qualified counsellor to join the College’s academic welfare team to support students in the school context.
The Student Counsellor – Primary works with students, families, and College staff to assist in the emotional, social and academic well-being of our students, their families and the school community. The role is a specialist part-time role of 30 hours per week (worked Monday to Thursday) during term time and would be an excellent opportunity for parents seeking a work/life balance.

Duties of this role will include (but are not limited to):
- Carrying out individual, peer and family counselling in the Primary School;
- Planning/providing professional development for school staff when required;
- Providing professional insight and advice to the College leadership and academic staff;
- Maintaining confidentiality of both students and families within the parameters of duty of care and school context;
- Balancing professional and administrative standards in accordance with the College policies;
About You:
The ideal candidate for this role is an experienced Counsellor who can provide confidential and professional counselling service to primary aged students with a wide range of wellbeing concerns, including social, emotional and anxiety and behavioural needs.
Applicants must have the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, foster positive relationships and to communicate with staff, students, and parents in a timely and respectful manner.
This role plays an integral part in fostering the wellbeing of students through a proactive and supportive counselling approach and the successful candidate will see themselves working in collaboration with the Counselling Team at JPC as well as the Leadership and the Diverse Learning Team and classroom teachers to encourage and promote student wellbeing at the College.
The successful applicant will have relevant qualifications and experience working with children and adolescents in the provision of counselling support within a school environment. They will also possess:
- A willingness to uphold the vision and values of John Paul College
- Current QTC Registration including a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC)
