Student Counsellor – Student Experience The University of Adelaide

JOB DESCRIPTION

(HEO8) 0.4 FTE, $106,561 – $119,550 pro rata, with an employer contribution of up to 17% superannuation.

Fixed term contract opportunity for 16 months initially for a Student Counsellor, with a background in Psychology, located at the Roseworthy campus.

With broad direction, and with a degree of autonomy, the Student Counsellor provides professional counselling, assessment, risk assessment, and case management support to students studying at the Roseworthy Campus, of the University of Adelaide.

The Division of Academic and Student Engagement (DASE) partners with students, staff and the broader community to deliver an outstanding student experience. At the heart of the student experience are transformational opportunities in learning and teaching.

Student Life deliver efficient and responsive student services that contribute to the overall student experience. Student Life is responsible for consistent enquiry management and non-academic support and advice throughout the student lifecycle in relation to wellbeing, accommodation, grievances and complaints and specialised international student services.  The Student Life unit includes Counselling Support, Disability Support, International Student Support Student Wellbeing and Access, Student Affairs and Accommodation Service.   

Working under the broad direction of the Manager, Counselling Services, the Student Counsellor is a member of the Student Life team located at Roseworthy campus and also of the broader Counselling team located on North Terrace campus. Both teams work collaboratively to provide a responsive and effective service to enrolled students at the University of Adelaide. The Counsellor would be expected to thoroughly assess need and to be able to work with the diverse student client group using a variety of therapeutic models with a focus on short term interventions. 

To be successful you will need:

  • Extensive experience in providing therapeutic counselling, assessment, risk assessment, and case management support with a demonstrated good working knowledge of brief intervention strategies.  
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the wide range and complex needs of students within a tertiary education setting.
  • Well-developed ability to establish rapport and form a therapeutic alliance with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team and liaise, negotiate and resolve conflict in complex situations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of professional practice expectations
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Eligibility to register with the Psychology Board of Australia through AHPRA.

This position requires a valid Working with Children Check.
