Position overview
The Student and University Experience Portfolio provides leadership of the University’s strategic initiatives that promote student and staff
equity, Indigenous Reconciliation and improve the quality of the student experience at the Australian National University. This role sits within the newly established team in the Division of University Experience which brings together Portfolio-based student and staff facing services, engagement and enrichment programs and education, prevention and early intervention work and initiatives.
ANU Counselling is seeking a Psychologist or Mental Health Social Workers to join our team of Student Counsellors. The position primarily
entails the provision of individual counselling to students. It requires professional expertise in psychological counselling practices and young adult mental health. An understanding of a broad range of personal, psychological, life stage, cultural and study related issues and the ability to adopt appropriate counselling frameworks is essential for this position. Mandarin speaking applicants are encouraged to apply.
The Student Counsellor position is under the broad direction of the Head of the Clinical Services. The core work of a Student Counsellor is the provision of psychological counselling services to students, including managing crises under supervision. You will also develop and
present specialist group programs, workshops and seminars and participate in projects that contribute to the professional practice of the
centre. In addition, you will have the skills and knowledge to provide advice and support to the ANU community on matters relating to
students who are distressed and/or acutely unwell.
ANU Counselling also provides clinical supervision and training to ANU Psychology Clinical Masters and PhD students. Unconditional
registration as a Clinical Psychologist and Psychology Board of Australia approved supervisory training that allows for unconditional AHPRA approved supervision for higher degree psychology students is desirable, but not a requirement of this position.
