JOB DESCRIPTION

As the Student Counsellor you will enjoy interacting and supporting young adults and appreciate being part of a growing community at St Andrew’s College. In your role, you will provide individual counselling services to the students and eventually connect them with a long-term Counsellor.
  
This role is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity, working part-time 2 or 3 days per week with the flexibility to work the hours that suit you best.   

The role:

  • Provide ongoing counselling support to students as needed
  • Maintain student confidentiality
  • Liaise with mental health providers to refer the student to the right long term Counsellor
  • Work closely with the wider team to facilitate suitable workshops and training for the students
  • Attend meetings with the pastoral care team on a monthly basis
  • Provide ongoing training sessions for the pastoral care team
  • Check in frequently and be the first point of contact for the team and students
  • Attend after-hours events, workshops and training when required

The ideal candidate:  

  • Hold a Counselling degree or certificate, or currently studying a Master of Counselling
  • Have experience in a counselling setting (education setting preferred but not essential)
  • Enjoy being part of a community and supporting young adults
  • Has a caring, approachable and empathetic manner
  • Excellent attention to detail and administrative skills
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Able to manage highly sensitive and confidential information
