About the Position:
Reporting to the Head of Melbourne Campus & THS Student Engagement, the Student Counsellor will be responsible for providing a quality, professional counselling service to our students. Particular emphasis is placed on the mental well-being to enable them to achieve their academic and personal ambitions. The position is required for 2 days per week, can be flexible with casual hours or perm-part-time, and based onsite at our Melbourne campus.
Key responsibilities include;
- Provide counselling services to students. Services include short-term or medium-term consultation sessions and may include initial assessment, determining appropriate case management, interventions and/or referral, crisis and psychosocial counselling. Develop and maintain appropriate professional case records.
- Provide additional support to students by offering secondary consultation services to relevant parties, such as academic staff, referral agencies, Austudy and others. Prepare and provide reports as required.
- Develop and promote a range of group programs, as a means of proactively promoting health and well-being amongst students. This includes the formulation, implementation, promotion and presentation of a regular calendar of group program initiatives.
- Report monthly to management on services provided and statistics on individual and group services.
About You
We are looking for an energised and passionate counsellor to join our team. The successful candidate will ideally present with the following qualifications, skills, abilities and experience:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Psychology, Counselling or Social Work
- Experience in individual, group and crisis counselling, preferably in a student counselling context desirable. Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports
- Demonstrated experience in designing and presenting group counselling programs
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and a high level of ethical practice
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A capacity for adaptability and flexibility in a rapidly changing environment
- Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity and equity in the workplace
- Current registration as a Psychologist or Social Worker preferred
- Current membership or eligibility for membership to the Australian Psychological Society or Australian Association of Social Workers preferred.
