About the Role

We are currently seeking applications for 2 Student Success Advisers in our Education department. The Student Success Adviser contributes to Department strategic objectives and annual goals by assisting the Student Success Team Lead in planning and implementation of wellbeing, academic support and case management support for UTS College students. 

The Student Success Adviser works directly with students, assessing their support needs, providing tailored guidance and advice that allows students to manage issues and behaviours that may be impacting their progression.  

You will work closely with students using person centered, strengths-based approaches to develop strategies for coping with study or personal issues and to achieve their potential. This requires regular collaborative engagement with academic staff, stakeholders from across the college and external service providers. 

 

Some of the responsibilities of the role are: 

  •  The provision of expert guidance, advice, personal development, study skills and pastoral care for students. Identify issues impacting student participation and progression and assist with the development and implementation of culturally sensitive strategies, programs and services. 
  • Provide case management services and subject matter expertise to assist with student incidents or behaviours of concern, including effective early intervention, education and support programs. 
  • Triaging students requiring mental health and academic support to relevant specialised support staff where appropriate. 
  • Contribute to case discussion and/or case coordination with the relevant stakeholders to support students with complex circumstances/needs where required. 
  • Develop and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with other departments within UTSC and relevant external agencies, in order to ensure optimal outcomes for students. 
  • Contribute to a safe college community and support a positive overall student experience. 

 

About you

You are someone that: 

  • Is aligned with the College’s Codes of ethics and conduct, and demonstrates through behaviours 
  • Are able to provide expert guidance and specialised advice on a range of issues impacting student welfare, participation, retention and success within the higher education sector. 
  • Approaches decisions considering the welfare of others, as well as the process and regulatory frameworks that UTSC operates under.  
  • Cares about the success and holistic welfare of students. 
  • Has strong service orientation with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and thrive in an environment that is student centred.  

 

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (qualifications in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Community Services, Youth Work would be beneficial) 
  • Proven experience providing high quality support to students from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Experience working in a tertiary education environment preferred 
  • Strong cultural awareness and proven ability to deal effectively and sensitively with people from a diverse range of backgrounds 
  • Ability to balance caseloads and be able to prioritise tasks. 
  • Organisational and time management skills, accuracy, and attention to detail. 
  • Advanced computer literacy and experience working with a range of systems and applications, including Microsoft Dynamics CRM or similar student experience management systems. 

Please note that for this role you must have a current NSW Working with Children Check, or be willing to attain one.
