We are seeking a Student Support and Wellbeing Advisor to join Student Services, Student Services and Wellbeing, Administrative Division.
The Student Support and Wellbeing Advisor is responsible for providing high quality professional services to international and domestic students addressing issues that directly impact on student wellbeing and success.
This position reports to the Manager, Student Programs and Initiatives for career planning, development, and performance expectations.
Key responsibilities include:
• Provide best-practice, theoretically sound intervention, support, information, outreach, referral, and case management services to a diverse student population via individual appointments, workshops, events and online information.
• Participate fully as an effective and collaborative member of the multidisciplinary service approach for Student Services department, including undertaking shared case management and crisis intervention.
• Undertake professional based Social Work assessment to support the needs of diverse clientele (individuals, groups, and the wider student community), including risk, safety, financial, critical incidents,and complex cases.
• Provide financial support to eligible students, access to emergency accommodation and referral to specialist community-based crisis support.
• Demonstrate clear decision making and problem-solving skills using a systemic approach and maintaining a client-centric solution focus.
• Collaborate with Student Services leads to identify, design, deliver and evaluate new initiatives, workshops, activities, and events that support student transition, inclusion, engagement, wellbeing, and success.
• Provide social work expertise in collaboration with internal and external multidisciplinary stakeholders to ensure safe and coordinated responses via shared case management, crisis intervention and continual improvement in prevention and early intervention strategies.
• Maintain professional case notes, records and reports in accordance with industry standards.
• Maintain contemporary knowledge of key university policies, procedures, relevant legislation along with state and federal welfare provisions and immigration matters.
• Contribute to the development of the student welfare and wellbeing knowledge base at QUT via networking, research and community needs analysis.
• Compliance with health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices.

About the area
The Student Services and Wellbeing portfolio leads the university-wide strategy and coordination of all non-academic matters related to the student experience. The portfolio delivers a range of services across the student life cycle, as well as providing advice and leadership to the university on a broad range of student and staff matters, including social justice and public policy. The departments within the portfolio include: Student Administration, Student Engagement, Equity, Student Services and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) and Sport. The portfolio also has strong links to and works closely with QUT’s Oodgeroo Unit, Student Success Group and Human Resources. The portfolio is focused on delivering services to support the university’s commitment to an exceptional student experience, leading to positive outcomes in success, retention and completion. This includes developing a campus culture which is inclusive, safe, and respectful for all students and staff. Student Services is responsible for providing a range of services to support the health and wellbeing of students in areas of Accommodation, Chaplaincy, Counselling, Disability Support, International Student Support, Welfare Services and QUT Medical Centres..
What you need to succeed
- Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to completion of a degree in Social Work, with at least four (4) years’ relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the provision of welfare and wellbeing services to a diverse population, including brief intervention, risk assessment, crisis response and critical case management.
- Proven understanding of student transition and acculturation, financial, academic, and personal issues, as well as relevant legislation and guidelines.
- Demonstrated high level organisational skills with the ability to problem solve and use critical thinking while managing competing demands.
- Sound professional practice in confidentiality, records management, boundaries and supervision.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to design, deliver and evaluate, workshops, preventative programs, educational materials, activities, and events.
- Demonstrated understanding of inclusion, diversity, participation, and social justice.

Term: Fixed-term part-time basis (21.75 hours per week) for (3) three years.
Remuneration: $112,109 to $122,634 pa (HEW7) (inclusive of $94,734 to $103,627 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading)
