What’s the job? 

The Student Support Coach (internally called Success Coach) is responsible for implementing and coordinating programs and initiatives that support the transition and success of students when they commence university. The role involves collaborating with other member of learning services, faculty members, and other stakeholders to design and deliver programs and services that promote student engagement, academic success, and personal development.

Day-today accountabilities:

  • Develop and implement retention initiatives and programs that meet the needs of the institution’s diverse student population.
  • Help support orientation and induction initiatives at students to ensure they are prepared for learning and successfully transition into higher education
  • Provide individualised and cohort based academic competency development and coaching to students, including developing study plans, goal setting, time management, and learning strategies.
  • Identify and address learning barriers and challenges that may be impeding student academic success, and support students at risk
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of student progress, including session notes, coaching plans, and progress reports.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay current on best practices in academic coaching and student support services.

We currently have two vacancies available, both campus based (with hybrid work environment : one position focused on our Design students, full time permanent, based in our Ultimo Campus; another position focused on our Health students, also full time permanent, based in our Surry Hills campus.

Who you are: 

To be successful in the role, you will love engaging with students and working in collaboration with other teams. In addition, you will have: 

  • A Bachelor Degree or above
  • Experience working independently in a student support role within the higher education sector
  • Experience respectively in the Health and Design industry would be highly regarded.
  • Previous experience/qualification in coaching will be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering programs and initiatives that target retention, engagement, student learning or are related to student orientation
  • Ability to communicate engage and inspire individuals (diverse and multicultural) in both 1:1 meetings and group settings.
  • Ability to create support plans, track progress and proactively follow up to ensure engagement and completion
  • Basic skills in extracting information from databases, creation of basic reports and use of customer (student) management systems
