Success for Learning
The University of Southern Queensland is committed to strengthening quality and excellence in our students’ experience and enhancing student success by providing a coordinated whole-of-University approach to ensuring student success.
Our Student Welfare Advisors consider student wellbeing as a core priority to enhance the student experience and facilitate student progress in tertiary studies. The Student Welfare Advisors provide a suite of services to support students’ financial literary and financial position, accommodation circumstances, personal safety, diversity and inclusion, and other programs and information services that support an inclusive tertiary experience.
We now have an opportunity for two Student Welfare Advisors to play an integral role in UniSQ’s whole-of-University approach and assist in transforming the lives of our students and communities through innovative, flexible and student-focused education:
- Opportunity exists for a First Nations person who will be able to bring their understanding of Australian First Nations perspectives, preferably with a knowledge of connections to emerging issues and development. This appointment is based at our Springfield campus and is a fractional (28.8 hours/week) continuing appointment (Identified position); and
- Opportunity exists for a full-time (36 hours/week) continuing appointment at Toowoomba campus.
What you’ll do:
Reporting to the Manager (Wellbeing), you will build and maintain partnerships with external organisations to increase services to student and to aid in referral pathways. Additionally, you will:
- Contribute to the development and provision of services and programs relating to key priority areas for students in relation to their welfare, including guidance, information and advice as required on matters pertaining to finance, accommodation, legal services, childcare, and student safety.
- Provide strategic advice in relation to relevant trends and issues, and
- Contribute to formal report writing and evaluation of service delivery.
What will help you succeed:
- A degree in human/social services, community services, psychology or education with relevant experience,
- Proven ability to provide guidance and information on a range of welfare needs such as accommodation, finance or personal crises to a diverse student population,
- Applied knowledge of current equity and diversity issues as they affect Australian higher education students,
- Demonstrated experience in organising and prioritising projects and tasks to achieve high-quality work outcomes, and
- Accurate record-keeping and preparation of reports and evaluation data.
For the Identified position, as an Australian First Nations person you will also be able to bring your understanding of First Nations perspectives to develop cultural safety within the wellbeing responses and services available for First Nations students. Your demonstrated knowledge and understanding of First Nations societies and cultures, including an understanding of the issues affecting people in contemporary Australian society and the diversity of circumstances of Aborginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, will be an important contribution to our Wellbeing team.
