Student Welfare Counsellor

  • Contractor role – equivalent to 1 day per week

The Role:

An exciting opportunity exists for a Student Welfare Counsellor for the Melbourne Campus. The role is to provide welfare support, guidance, counselling, education, and other appropriate referral as required, to students studying at our college. Reporting to the Melbourne Campus Manager, the role falls within Student Services and is required for the equivalent of 8 hours per week – offered on a contractor basis.

 

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities: 

  • Providing confidential and timely guidance, welfare support and counselling to students
  • Presenting workshops and information sessions to provide relevant information and/or skills for students as required
  • Identifying student issues and needs and having the skills to be able to respond to and assist with these issues
  • Providing quick and responsive services to students in need and in crisis
  • Establishing and maintaining a line of communication and referral to counselling and welfare support services from academic faculties within the college
  • Establishing a network of externally provided services that students can be referred to if specialist assistance is required
  • Understanding the key issues experienced by international students, and using professional judgement in developing and recommending strategies to respond to these issues

 

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Skills: 

  • Qualifications, Technical skills and experience require of this role include:
  • Degree qualified in counselling, welfare, social work or psychology essential
  • Demonstrated experience provided in welfare support, social work and counselling services
  • Demonstrated experience providing such services to client base with many diverse backgrounds
  • Understanding of privacy and confidentiality guidelines
  • Experience in the education sector and working specifically with international students is an advantage
