About the program

Anglicare WA’s Student Wellbeing Service works to enable primary and secondary public schools across the state to have access to a Student Wellbeing Officer who:

  • provides non-threatening, confidential and non-judgmental support to students
  • helps facilitate appropriate and timely referrals to other support programs and agencies as required
  • supports students and their wider community to develop resilience and improve social and emotional wellbeing

About the role

You will work alongside school wellbeing teams to support the growth and development of individual students, school culture and community links with Anglicare WA’s programs and services.

You will bring enthusiasm, contemporary knowledge and experience of the issues facing children and young people, and the highest standards of professional practice to the role.

A typical day may include:

  • Meaningful engagement with students through a wide range of school-based activities
  • Individual informal support for students that is strengths-based and solution focused 
  • Support for students to connect with professional staff within the school eg. school nurse, school psychologist
  • Support for young people to access and connect with community based services
  • Outreach to disengaged students and their families 
  • Provision, brokerage and/or facilitation of school wellbeing workshops or programs, including on subjects such as healthy relationships; healthy lifestyles; mindfulness; mental wellbeing; cyber safety and – for older students – independent living skills; sexual health and relationships; legal information; conflict resolution and setting boundaries
  • Contribution to the development of whole-school wellbeing strategies

Roles will vary in FTE, depending on the needs of the school.

About You

You will bring energy, enthusiasm and a desire to have impact.  You will:

  • Have a Cert IV in Youth Work, or relevant tertiary qualification that permits registration as a counsellor, teacher, social worker, psychologist, nurse or midwife
  • Have contemporary knowledge of the issues impacting children and young people
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and build strong relationships with children and young people
  • Experience in providing individual support to children and young people that is strengths-based, solution-focused and trauma-informed
  • Ability to work in a team and to work collaboratively with others
  • Ability to build and maintain professional networks 
  • Ability to accept, respect and work with children and young people:
    • from a broad range of backgrounds and abilities
    • from different cultures, particularly with Aboriginal & CaLD young people
    • who may identify as LGBTIQ+
    • from all belief systems
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to facilitate small groups

Remuneration and benefits

  • $80,963 per annum (pro rata for part time depending on FTE) + 11% super
  • Tax-free salary packaging benefits up to $15,900 per annum
  • School hours
  • Paid school holidays
