Student Wellbeing Officer (Maternity Relief) WEA Illawarra

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Role

Are you a social worker, occupational therapist, community, or youth worker, looking for a change where you can build or enhance your skills in an education environment?

We have a Part-Time (Fixed-Term) (33 hours/week – Monday, Wednesday – Friday, 8.30am-3.30pm, Tuesday, 8.30am – 4.00pm) Student Wellbeing Officer position available at our Vincentia Campus commencing January 2024 and ending 11 October 2024. The focus of the role is to identify and help build skills in young people to support their ability to engage in their education and to support the interconnectedness of school, home and community.

The Student Wellbeing Officer will be responsible for pro-active approaches to enhance and maintain each student’s wellbeing so that they can fully participate in the education opportunities provided by Novo Education Space, build practical real-world skills to face their challenges and forge a path to a productive future based on their personal goals.

The Student Wellbeing Officer will work collaboratively with the students, their caregivers and other key Novo Education Space staff to facilitate the development of each student’s Individual Learning Profile (ILP), wellbeing and transition plans, providing individual case management and advocacy, as well as developing, implementing and evaluating group programs to address wellbeing needs within the school. (Please refer to the Job description for additional information. This can be found in the Applicant Information Package provided through the link below)

Who we are.

Novo Education Space (formerly known as Alesco Illawarra) is an independent Special Assistance School for young people in Years 9-12. Based in Wollongong with additional campuses in the Shoalhaven, our purpose is to create capable, confident and self-assured young people who are connected to their community and able to forge a path to a productive future.

Novo Education Space is operated by WEA Illawarra, which is a not-for-profit Community College, Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and Public Benevolent Institution.

This is an exciting time to be joining Novo Education Space.  In 2021 we launched a new name that reflects our new direction. Our students are no longer working towards their Record of School Achievement or HSC.  We are re-imagining what our educators and wellbeing staff can help our students achieve without the constraints of an overly academic curriculum focused on mandatory hours and content, rigid assessment tasks, HSC Bands and the ATAR, which seem to have little relevance to the real-world skills young people need to learn in order to have a productive future and become positive contributors to their communities.

Who are you?

  • Someone who believes that every young person, no matter what has come before, deserves a quality education.
  • You want to create the opportunity for every young person to succeed by creating that support pathway.
  • You are someone who is passionate about self-determination and equipping young people with the skills they need to reach their goals.
  • You want to make a difference and support every young person to become a positive contributor to their communities

Novo Education Space enrols a high proportion of First Nations students.  We are continually learning and growing in our diversity and inclusion commitment and practice.  We strongly encourage applications from First Nations people, culturally, linguistically, gender or other diverse people for this role.

If you truly want to make a difference, create the environment that all young people deserve and want to join our dedicated team as it continues to set the pathway for a new direction then refer to the full details in the applicant information package.
