St Rita’s College Ltd, in the Brisbane suburb of Clayfield, is a leading independent Catholic secondary school currently educating over 1000 girls from Years 5-12. St Rita’s College has an outstanding reputation as an inspiring, nurturing educational environment for young women.
The College is seeking applications for a Student Wellbeing Officer is to assist the personal needs of students through the provision of general personal advice. This can include support and guidance about ethics, values, relationship issues; the provision of student welfare, and enhancing engagement with the broader community.
About the Role
The Student Wellbeing Officer works as a member of a team that supports students in strengthening their relationships and community connections. The Student Wellbeing Officer seeks to empower young people and their families, acting as an advocate and running programs for those who are disadvantaged or disconnected and contributes to the pastoral care of students and related wellbeing services offered by the school in consultation with the pastoral team and College Leadership Team. The role holder refers students and families requiring more complex assessment and support to the Guidance Counsellors.
This role works 7:30am – 3:30pm Monday to Friday during the school term (some flexibility with hours, and get school holidays off!) and remunerated at a School Officer Level 4 ($55,364 per annum).
Key responsibilities, abilities and skills are:
- Work closely with others to promote and develop student wellbeing, emotional resilience, positive relationships and a sense of community.
- Collaborate with other role holders such as Deputy Principals, Guidance Counsellors, and Heads of Houses in supporting the pastoral needs of students.
- Provide appropriate referrals for students in accordance with school approved protocols and processes.
- Provide follow up to students and families including problem and conflict resolution measures to support students and families.
- Undertake student welfare and preliminary wellbeing assessments and develop and implement strategies to improve student welfare including follow up interventions with parents/carers where appropriate.
- The employee in this position is required to hold a Certificate IV in Pastoral Care or equivalent; and Accreditation with Chaplaincy Australia or commitment to become accredited with Chaplaincy Australia.
The successful applicant will be required to hold a current Paid Work with Children Check (Blue Card) prior to commencement.
