About the Role

Located at our Abermain Campus, The Student Wellbeing and Support Officer works closely with a campus team to support the regular and consistent practices of the student wellbeing and support teams within campuses, and specifically works in collaboration with the Student Wellbeing Officer to support the wellbeing needs of students.

The role works to connect with students, as individuals and in groups to build rapport, provide support and assist identify barriers which are challenging the student’s engagement in learning. The Student Wellbeing Support Officer works with Student Wellbeing Officer to support the needs of students in the areas of engagement and participation, referral to external agencies, life skill development and safety.

The Student Wellbeing Support Officer may be involved in Child Care and Protection matters and pastoral care case management practices.

The Student Wellbeing Support Officer may also be involved in the supervision and delivery of group work focussed on non-curriculum learning and development, and the implementation of consistent practices to increase learning support for individual students specific learning needs.

In this full time role, successful applicants should be able to confidently:

  • Develop rapport, gain trust and respect from students to develop lasting relationships.
  • Assist the Student Wellbeing Officer on the purpose, benefits and expectations within student wellbeing in order to promote high expectations and positive outcomes for all.
  • Design, develop and deliver non curriculum programs focused on life skill development or increased wellbeing.
  • Support the successful implementation of wellbeing and community programs throughout all Alesco Senior Colleges.
  • Participate in pastoral care case management to their individual campus.
  • Facilitate information sharing and collaborative practices which lead to the quality provision of individual learning needs of students.
  • Be available to support wellbeing and support staff in regarding the full range of practical services or program delivery solutions which may assist in dealing with student issues.
  • Consistently advocate the importance of positive staff/ student relationships to the ongoing success of students within Alesco Senior College.
  • Participate in school planning activities as required, eg fundraising, community programs etc.

About You

  • You already live by the values of Inclusion, Integrity and Innovation.
  • Minimum 2 years’ Experience in individualised or group support and case management with young people.
  • Mental Health First Aid Certificate and or training.
  • Cert IV Diploma or higher qualifications in Human Sciences, Welfare, Youth Work, Social Sciences or Social Work.
  • Effective high-level communication, interpersonal, advocacy and conflict resolution skills.
  • A demonstrated interest in student wellbeing with experience working with disadvantage and at-risk young people.
  • Knowledge of behaviour, psychological and wellbeing theories, and practices relevant to young people.
  • Proven innovative and imaginative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent collaboration and organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of secondary schooling sector and adherence to all required current legislative instruments and guidelines including child protection and safety.
  • Experience in an alternative or independent education setting is desirable.

Atwea College requires:

  • Valid NSW Working With Children Check and current National Criminal Police Record Check prior to the commencement of employment.
  • Child Protection Training, or willingness to obtain.
  • Drivers Licence.
  • Cert IV Diploma or higher qualifications in Human Sciences, Welfare, Youth Work, Social Sciences or Social Work.
