About the Role

Meli is excited to advertise for the role of Supervised Contact Worker. This role is based in Geelong and is part-time (0.5 FTE), fixed term until the 10 January 2025.The successful applicant will work across Meli’s Children Contact Service (CCS) and Family Engagement Service (FES). Both services offer families an independent and neutral venue where supervised contact visits for children and young people of separated parents can occur in a safe, supportive and family friendly environment.

This position is based at our Hamlyn Heights Office. Hours of operation are Thursday 10.00am to 3.00pm, Friday 12:00pm to 6:30pm, and Saturday 9:00am to 5:30pm.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Supervise and support contact visits between children and their parents/guardian or significant family members ensuring that the needs and wellbeing of children and young people are prioritised at all times.
  • Maintain clear and detailed written records of all observations, interactions and supervised contact visits with parents and children.
  • Write clear and objective court reports.
  • Effectively engage with and support families in identifying goals in relation to supervised contact or facilitated changeover arrangements.
  • Undertake assessments and provide orientation for children and parents accessing the service.
  • Facilitate changeover of children from one parent to another in accordance with clearly defined procedures and practice standards.
  • Ensure that the program policies and guidelines are adhered to in order to promote and ensure children’s safety and well-being while using the service; including compliance with all policies and procedures of the program and the organisation.

Vacancy Details

  • Part-time, Fixed Term until 10 January 2025
  • 19 hours per week, Thursday 10.00am to 3.00pm, Friday 12:00pm to 6:30pm, and Saturday 9:00am to 5:30pm.
  • $82,241 p/a (pro rata) + super + salary packaging

About You

  • A relevant qualification or currently studying social work, psychology or other related discipline relevant to the human services sector.
  • Understanding and knowledge of family and separation issues, child development, family violence, trauma informed and strength based practice.
  • Well-developed communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking observation of parent/child behaviour.
  • Comprehensive written skills including the ability to produce objective, factual based case notes and reports for court proceedings and funding body reviews.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and ensures compliance in work practices.
