The Position
St John of God Social Outreach provides a range of no or low-cost mental health, homelessness and capacity building services to over 5500 people in the community across Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales and the Asia Pacific, particularly in areas where we have identified gaps in service provision.
We are currently seeking applications for a Support Coordinator to join our Horizon House in Wilson on a 9 month contract.
The Support Coordinator oversees and coordinates the operational running and program delivery at Horizon House accommodation locations, including associated transition placements. This position reports to the State Manager of Youth Services and is part of a national team of Youth Residential Support Co-ordinators. Horizon House operates using an innovative and rare housing model so this is a fantastic opportunity to make a real, long-term difference to the lives of vulnerable youth.
We are offering this role on a 9-month contract basis, working 38 hours per week.
The successful candidate will have:
- A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
- Tertiary qualification from a recognised University and/or TAFE College in Youth Work, Social Work or Psychology and a minimum of 5 years’ experience working with young people in a residential care setting.
- Well-developed understanding of trauma informed care including theoretical perspectives such as loss and grief, attachment, resilience and connectedness, child and adolescent development and the capacity to apply a range of trauma informed practise responses based on these theories.
- Sound understanding of the particular challenges involved in service delivery to young people in the homelessness sector.
- Demonstrated ability to act with a high level of professional integrity and emotional resilience whilst working with and supporting a team to meet the needs of vulnerable young people who have been exposed to trauma.
- Experience in program coordination and leadership of a team to successfully support program delivery.
- High level of verbal and written communication skills and computer literacy.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and as a team
- Strong risk management skills with effective, flexible and sound problem solving skills.
- Participate in the out of hours roster as On Call Coordinator.
- Hold a full (unrestricted) State Drivers Licence.
- Be responsible for maintaining current First Aid and CPR Certification.
