The Role
Join our dedicated team at Coast Shelter as a Support Worker in the BASS (Bail Accommodation Support Service) program, where you will provide crucial support to young people aged 14-18. Your role will involve delivering flexible and responsive services. Working closely with Youth Justice NSW and other stakeholders, you will ensure these young individuals receive the necessary support to meet their bail conditions and avoid unnecessary detention. This role is pivotal in providing comprehensive care and fostering positive outcomes for vulnerable youth.
Key duties include:
• Assisting with NDIS access and supporting family restoration efforts.
• Providing court support and accompanying youth to medical appointments and assessments.
• Maintaining accurate documentation and reporting as required.
• Facilitating connection to culture and community.
This position offers an opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of young people, contributing to their well-being and rehabilitation within a supportive team environment.
All About You
You are a compassionate professional, ideally with a First Nations background, and have experience in youth work or social services. You bring valuable knowledge of court support and the juvenile justice system, understanding the unique challenges faced by young people, especially within First Nations communities. Your strong communication skills and ability to build trust and rapport are essential in this role. You are passionate about supporting young people and are dedicated to making a positive impact on their lives and futures.
We are looking for someone with:
• Tertiary Qualification, and/or minimum 3 years’ youth work experience
• Must be available for a 24/7 roster
• Strong understanding of issues facing young people, including trauma, substance use, and family violence.
• Proven ability to maintain boundaries and respond to challenging behaviours
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of local Aboriginal organisations to support the cultural needs of Aboriginal young people.
