About the position:

The Support Worker supports the Intensive Bail Initiative Program to assist young people and their families to meet their bail condition requirements and meet any conditions related to that, whilst also addressing the issues which may be bringing them into conflict with the law. The position provides practical, mainly outreach, support to young people in line with their case plan and in consultation with the TAIHS IBI team and other key stakeholders

The purpose of the Intensive Bail Initiative (IBI) is about reconnecting young people and healing young peoples’ connections. The initiative responds to the needs of young people who are known repeat / recidivist offenders with complex needs and their family members. The aim is to support young people on bail, including those who are subject to a Conditional Bail Program (CBP) or Electronic Monitoring trial as a condition of bail. Support is available to young people in contact with the Queensland Police Service / Youth Justice Co-Responder Team (CRT) through the Community Co-Responder component of IBI.

 

To be suitable for this position, your qualifications, experience & licenses for the role will consist of:

  • Previous experience in a relevant industry, service or an equivalent level of expertise and experience to undertake the range of activities required 
  • Ability to create a team environment whereby strategies are developed to build capability whilst acknowledging individual’s skills, abilities and strengths
  • Qualification in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Behavioural Science, Social Science, Health, Youth Work, Community Services or relevant field
  • An extensive understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and protocols and the issues which impact upon them in contemporary society
  • Demonstrated experience in bail support and crisis response, specifically with young people, including complex trauma-based behaviour management, case management and referral pathways
  • Knowledge of or ability to rapidly acquire technical understanding of relevant legislation and regulations; specifically Youth Justice and Child Safety
  • Demonstrated ability to provide appropriate information on a range of services and referral pathways available for young people and families specific to their circumstances. Including accommodation, counselling, family support, legal, education, employment, drugs and alcohol
  • Ability to pass a National Police Check – no Serious/Criminal/Court Records 
  • Current Blue Card (Queensland’s Working with Children Check) 
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld) 
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: It is a condition of employment for this position to be, and remain, vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Current certification First Aid and CPR
