Why this role matters

The Salvation Army Australia’s Family Violence Stream provides a wide range of services around the country to support women and women with children impacted by family and domestic violence. We offer refuge, children’s and parenting services, counselling, support, men’s programs, accommodation and advice to women and children who are experiencing, or who have experienced, family violence.

About the role

We are currently seeking a values-driven and proactive Support Worker, reporting to the Team Leader. The Support Worker is instrumental in delivering high quality, safe and effective family violence responses to those seeking support, safety, and recovery. The role encompasses the delivery of intake and assessment, crisis response to adult and child victim-survivors in the 24/7 refuge or in crisis accommodation.

You will successfully

  • Ensure clients accessing the service are provided with a welcoming and responsive initial contact and urgent and immediate needs are addressed
  • Effectively build established relationsips with clients that encourage self-determination and participation and support them to improve their situation
  • Provide support to clients to implement case plans in accordance with The Salvation Army case management models and standards of practice
  • Ensure all client records and data is accurately maintained
  • Perform general housekeeping duties as required
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects and tasks that support the smooth operation of the facillities as required

This is a Casual position located in Darwin City, NT. The salary and conditions for this role are in accordance with the SCHADS Level 3 Award.

You will have

  • The willingness to undergo a National Police Check
  • Relevant state Working with Children Check
  • The ability to complete evening, sleepover and weekend shifts
  • A Certificate IV qualification in social work, welfare or community development OR demonstrated equivalent knowledge and skills attained through previous appointments, service and study/development
  • Relevant experience in a social service environment
