About the team
The Cancer Information and Support Services (CISS) Division aims to empower and support people affected by cancer, so that no-one need face cancer alone. This Division assists people as they navigate the cancer journey, easing their emotional and practical burdens and helping them make informed decisions.
The Supportive Care team provides peer and counselling support to people affected by cancer experiencing emotional distress and is focused on addressing the psychosocial impacts of cancer. The services offered include the facilitation of Cancer Support Groups, Cancer Connect individual peer support, the Cancer Council Online Community and provision of Cancer Counselling support.
About the role
The key purpose of the Lead, Supportive Care role is to provide strategic direction, expertise and oversight to address the psychosocial impact associated with a cancer experience. This position will lead a small team and work across services to manage the delivery of peer and counselling support services that aim to alleviate emotional distress.
Key responsibilities of the role:
- Provide expertise in psychosocial support, informing the review, implementation, and optimization of Cancer Council Supportive Care services that provide peer and counselling support.
- Lead and cultivate a high performing team of supportive care and service specialists (e.g. registered counsellors, psychologists and subject matter experts) working internally and remotely, ensuring achievement of performance objectives, and on-going development and supervision, engagement, resilience, and retention of staff.
- Lead the team coordination of the Cancer Council Online Community ensuring community growth, relevant content, engagement moderation and business integration.
- Work closely with the Training and Support Services Specialist to coordinate training and engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including supportive care volunteers, group leaders and service facilitators.
- Manager support, contribute to the development and monitoring of strategic, operational, reporting and budgetary plans of the supportive care services including tracking grant funding and reporting to external stakeholders.
- Champion a client centric culture across all services and client touch points in the division.
- Represent Cancer Council in collaborative work with internal and external stakeholders including: Working across research projects and opportunities to enhance peer and counselling support services
About you
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, along with:
Essential:
- Counselling or Psychology tertiary qualification
- Registration with a national peak body eg PACFA, ACA, APHRA
- Experience providing individual and group therapeutic support via telephone, online or face to face
- Knowledge of psychosocial support
- Demonstrated high level project management skills
- Experience leading, managing and developing staff to achieve objectives both face to face and in a remote working environment
- Demonstrated excellent ability to work within and manage budgetary requirements
- Excellent presentation and networking skills
- Knowledge and experience implementing change management frameworks.
- Experience in implementing, monitoring, evaluating and improving services/programs
- Experience developing and embedding policies and procedures
- Sound computer experience in Microsoft Programs including CRM
Desirable:
- An understanding of the needs of people affected by cancer and the oncology health setting
- Experience working with Online Community support coordination
- Experience in a not-for-profit or community-based organisation
