  • CAMHS Acute Response Team (Safeguards) are seeking applicants who are passionate about improving the mental health and social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities.
  • The successful candidate, if they Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander will be supported to actively engage in both Dhuwi cultural supervision and discipline specific clinical supervision (via the Aboriginal CAMHS Service – Wiyliyiin-Ta) and will be linked into both cultural supervision and discipline specific supervision and supports, alongside the clinical supports of the Safeguards Team and specific Aboriginal support via the CAMHS Acute Response Team (Safeguards) Identified Project Officer and Identified Clinician. This position will also be supported to attend the HNEMH Aboriginal morning huddles to connect with other Aboriginal staff across the service and the monthly Aboriginal Advisory Networking Meetings.
  • You will be supported culturally and professionally by a non-Aboriginal Manger, clinicians, the Aboriginal Mental Health workforce, an Aboriginal Manager Located in Tamworth. The position is based Tamworth Mental Health Service – Dean House

Employment Type: Permanent Full Time (However, Part Time Applicants will be considered)
Position Classification: Counsellor Level 1/2 up to Level 3 , Occupational Therapist Level 1/2 up to Level 3 , Social Worker Level 1/2 up to Level 3 , Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2, CNC1 and Clinical Psychologist/Clinical Psychologist in Training.

This is a targeted position in accordance with Policy Directive (PD2016_053NSW Health Good Health – Great Jobs: Aboriginal Workforce Strategic Framework 2016 – 2020. About the service:

The new ‘Safeguards Team’ will be a CAMHS, extended hours, community based, assertive and flexible short-term multidisciplinary service delivering skilled evidence-based interventions to resolve mental health crisis with young people and their families. These interventions include risk management and stabilisation, safety planning and containment, brief intervention and multiagency/service linkage. 

This position will primarily be located at Tamworth, you will be a part of the broader Safeguards Team based at Wallsend Newcastle – so you will connect via telehealth for ongoing clinical support. This position will be on a rotating roster which may include afternoon shifts and weekends.

About the position:

The primary purpose of this position will be to plan, coordinate, and provide evidence based, trauma informed and culturally and developmentally appropriate assessment and treatment to children and adolescents (0 to 17 years) in acute mental health distress, and their families.

The role sits within the Safeguards Child and Adolescent Mental Health Response Team (‘Safeguards Team’) and reports to the Safeguards Team Leader with professional responsibility to the appropriate HNELHD Mental Health – Head of Discipline.

The successful candidate will be supported to actively engage in both Dhuwi cultural supervision and discipline specific clinical supervision, alongside the clinical supports of the Safeguards Team. This position will also be supported to attend the HNEMH Aboriginal morning huddles to connect with other Aboriginal staff across the service and the monthly Aboriginal Advisory Networking Meetings.

In addition support for the new clinician will be provided from the Team Leader, CAMHS Transition Educator, Local CAMHS/AMH clinicians and the CAMHS Senior of the Discipline to support a new clinician in the role

Information for Applicants:

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. Please provide proof of booster vaccination if available.

An eligibility list will be created for future permanent full or part time and temporary full or part time vacancies.
