About The Opportunity
A rare opportunity to join the only GOT IT! program in NSW Health catering specifically to the needs of Aboriginal children and families! The program has received outstanding feedback from the local Aboriginal community and recently won the NSW Health Award for Excellence in Aboriginal Health Care.
The Aboriginal Got It! Team Leader will guide culturally responsive service delivery and is responsible for the operational management of the program and ensuring strong cultural and clinical governance of the program is maintained.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a multidisciplinary team of Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal staff.
- Support the cultural adaption of western clinical models of assessment and care coordination.
- Cultural Strengths Mapping.
- Coordinating community engagement and promotional events.
- Guide the delivery of a 10 week therapeutic program, individual/family therapy, case management, professional development for school educators.
- Leading cultural evaluation frameworks.
This role would be suited to an Aboriginal person that has a passion for culture in practice principles and an interest in Health Management. While this program is set within Mental Health, we welcome applicants from a diverse range of fields and practice areas.
Hours of Work
- Core Hours of work are 8.30am-5.pm
- Starting and finishing times may be adjusted to accommodate availability of school staff and home visiting.
About the Team
The Aboriginal Got It! Team is a multidisciplinary team consisting of an Administrative Officer, Principal Aboriginal Health Worker, Senior Aboriginal Health Worker, Senior Mental Health Professional (Psychologist) and Mental Health Professional (Social Worker), which all report to the Aboriginal Got It! Team Leader.
Aboriginal Got It! is an early intervention Mental Health program focussed on improving the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal children aged 3yrs-9yrs in preschool and primary school settings. The program utilises a culturally adapted model of care that infuses Aboriginal traditional healing practices alongside Aboriginal ways of being and western clinical practices.
The program involves delivery of a 10-week therapeutic program to Aboriginal children and their extended family members. Aboriginal Got It! also involves holistic case management of Aboriginal families. In addition to supporting families directly the program aims to improve schools capacity to identify and respond to children’s social and emotional needs in the classroom.

SWSLHD operates it’s services on the lands of the Dharawal, Darug and Gundungurra lands and has a rich history of working alongside local Aboriginal communities.
Aboriginal Got It! is based within Infant and Child Adolescent Mental health Services surrounded by a dynamic team of Mental Health professionals and Aboriginal community knowledge holders.
As a part of the SWSLHD Aboriginal Mental Health team you will be supported by the Aboriginal Mental Health Leadership group, Aboriginal Health Unit and a multi-stakeholder steering committee to guide the ongoing program development. You will have access to established supervision structures including clinical supervision, cultural supervision, and peer supervision. We offer a wide range of cultural supports across the service including mentoring from Aboriginal Managers, training and development opportunities as well as a large workforce of Aboriginal colleagues.
The position has an office base in Campbelltown. The team services schools and families across the South West Sydney area and travel across the district will be required.
The program is also supportive of flexible working practices and work from home options are available.

- Relevant Qualification in one of the following disciplines: Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or Psychology with current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or eligibility for registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
- Describe your experience in leading and developing staff to deliver individual, family and group therapeutic interventions with Aboriginal Children and Families.
- Current unrestricted Australian drivers licence (P2 Licence Acceptable) subject to obtaining NSW drivers licence within 3 months of appointment
