Your Opportunity:

Australian Unity is proud and excited to be partnering with Beyond Blue to deliver their 24/7 omnichannel brief counselling and advice service to all Australians in need. Working from home, you will provide brief phone and webchat support to our service users who typically present with mental health concerns. We’re looking for individuals passionate about supporting people experiencing emotional distress, depression, and anxiety to join our community-based team and make a difference every day.

This is a permanent full time opportunity, working 37.5hrs per week across the 24/7 service. You could choose to be a part of our:

Afternoon roster team with start times varying between 10am – midnight AEDT/ AEST OR Night roster team with start times varying between 6pm – 8am AEDT/ AEST.

As this is an entry level role into the Mental Health field, we are seeking someone who does not hold a degree or registration in relevant field but cares about making a difference to people’s lives and help them feel less distressed.

About you:

You are a warm, empathic, kind and a patient individual. As a Mental Health Coach, you will deliver front-line support to help seekers in our community who present with emotional distress, anxiety, and depression symptoms. You are:

  • Self-motivated and tech savvy with strong administration and time management skills
  • Resilient and can cope with high volume of calls and chats discussing complex mental health symptoms and life circumstances
  • Open to working in a team to support one another to learn and engage in continuous professional development
  • Experienced in working with diverse communities (desirable)

You will be supported by an induction program which has been developed to scaffold, support, and safeguard BBSS Coaches in their first 12 months. This comprehensive skills-based training program is structured to support your growth as a BBSS Coach. Our aim is to help you develop competence in building your mental health support skills and confidence over the year.

You will be provided with relevant technology equipment to support you with your WFH setup however will be required to have the following:

  • Private room/space which can be used for your home office set up
  • Reliable/stable internet connection
  • Demonstrated IT skills and proficiency in telephony-based systems where you are comfortable navigating multiple software, digital note taking and counselling and support simultaneously.
