About the Program
SSI has been funded by the Victorian Government – Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation to deliver a Statewide Multicultural Service – gambling harm prevention and support program. Noting that extensive work has been rolled out in established communities SSI will continue to work with these communities while focusing efforts into providing opportunities, information and small grants to new and emerging communities.
About the role
You will be responsible for delivering therapeutic counselling support to individuals affected by problem gambling and their families in order to assist in reducing the negative effects of problem gambling. In addition to face to face counselling, this position will include working to raise community awareness of problem gambling issues to the multicultural communities. All counselling programs are underpinned by psychodynamic, trauma informed, holistic principles.
You will provide information on vocational, relationship, social and educational difficulties and issues, and work with people to help them to identify and define their emotional issues through therapies such as cognitive behaviour therapy, interpersonal therapy and other talking therapies.
You will operate within an evidence-based practice framework for the effectiveness of various therapeutic approaches. The Therapeutic Counsellor is bound by a code of ethics, good practice and confidentiality and is required to attend an ongoing program of continual professional development. Contribute to the development of coordinated approaches to service delivery across key stakeholder groups.

About you
The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills & experience:
- Relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent in social work, counselling or psychology
- Experience and training in addiction and/or gambling counselling
- demonstrated highly developed communication skills in written and oral situations, with supportive & positive attitude toward all persons for whom there is responsibility, accountability or care
- Experience in facilitating evidence-based therapeutic practices and study in a counselling environment.
- Experience in tracking and monitoring client change/progress or therapy impact
- Computer Literacy consistent with the expectations for a Therapeutic Counsellor
- Excellent time management, multi-tasking and follow-up skills
- Ability to travel between sites and working locations
The ideal candidate will work well with people and build relationships easily driven from a positive mindset and can-do spirit. You will be very hands-on with an ability to be flexible and capable of working effectively & autonomously in a fast-paced team environment.
