The Role:
We are looking for a passionate professional Psychologist, Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse or equivalent committed to working as part of a care team to provide therapeutic support for children and young people in out-of-home care, through positive engagement and advocacy.
Therapeutic Specialists facilitate trauma-informed therapeutic care within a multidisciplinary team focused to optimise outcomes for young people who have experienced complex trauma within the child protection system.
The Therapeutic Specialist as part of the Care Team formulates therapeutic interventions to promote a safe and nurturing environment in consultation with the young people so they may thrive to reach their potential.
The Therapeutic Specialist will have in-depth knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families.
Key job criteria:
- Conduct child-centric evaluations of children and adolescents
- Perform evaluations and updates, including Positive Behaviour Plans and Individual Crisis Management Plans, to continually address the requirements and ongoing needs of children and young adults
- Offer research-backed guidance on comprehending and reducing the adverse effects of trauma, encouraging age-suitable growth, and enhancing skills and proficiency
- Spearhead the establishment, upkeep, and assessment of the Trauma Recovery Model principles and methodologies, and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI). This includes the review of staff and carer competencies, providing training, coaching, and mentorship when needed
- Deliver evidence-based training and assistance to caregivers and staff regarding therapeutic support
- Establish and manage relationships with key stakeholders that formulate the care team for children and young people
Essential Criteria:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, Mental Health Nursing or equivalent
- Min 5 years post-grad experience, prefer trauma-informed experience
- Current professional membership relevant to your qualification
- Current National Criminal History and Working with Children’s Check
- Unrestricted Driver’s License
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Eligibility to work within Australia
