About the Position

We are looking for suitable qualified Youth Workers to provide support to children and young people in a Trauma Recovery Programme, which is  auspiced and funded by the Department of Communities & Justice and located in the Campbelltown area of Sydney.   

 

The programme is based on the ARC Model of Care and the work consists of supporting children/young people under child safety orders in a Trauma Recovery Programme environment.  The role is working with children/young people to assist them recognise AND work through their trauma and at the same time keep them safe.  Additional to the trauma the children have experienced, most participants of the programme have mental health issues and/or a disability and the needs associated with these conditions are required to be address, supported and worked through.

 

The aim of the programme I to successfully set the participants up to transition into an appropriate living environment in the future.

 

The role is a Casual role and attracts a Casual rate of pay, however, to ensure the smooth running of the programme ALL staff are required to commit to a minimum of 4 shifts a week and are provided with a regular fortnightly roster. The roster covers a 24/7 period and shifts are 8 hours duration. Additionally, there are opportunities for career progression and staff may apply for more senior roles as they become available.

About You

To be considered for this position, you will hold a minimum of a Diploma in a Youth, Psychology or Community Services related field.

All applicants must be able to commit to a minimum of 4 x 8 hour rostered shifts per week.

You must have demonstrated minimum of six months experience working with children and young people in an Out of Home Care Trauma Recovery Programme and have an understanding of the Legislation relevant to the role.

Due to the nature of the role, you will have experience in working with children and young people in accommodation and with high and complex needs. You will need to be confident in your abilities to provide high levels of support as well as maintaining high levels of self-care.

Additionally, you need to have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, strong problem-solving skills, crisis management knowledge and intermediate computer competencies.

Prior to commencement, the successful candidates will hold (or willing to obtain) the following:

  • AUSTRALIAN Citizenship or Permanent Residency
  • A current NSW Driver’s License;
  • A current First Aid/CPR Certificate;
  • A current Working With Children’s’ Check;
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • A current National Criminal History Record Check which is less than six months old.
  • NDIS on-line training module certificate “Worker Orientation Module – Quality, Safety & You”
  • A commitment to completing the on-line OCG training module on Reportable Conduct (the link will be provided to the successful applicant)
