Therapist/ Counsellor– permanent part-time basis

About Us

arcs are an independent not-for-profit community agency offering professional counselling, and consultation to those living with the reality of adoption and/or separated from family.

Since 1984, arcs have been there for those affected by adoption and loss of relationship with family. We have provided specialist services that are responsive to the complex issues faced by all those dealing with the loss and pain of separation from family and the challenges of re-connection.

We also offer a Therapeutic Reunification Programme for those who are involved in Family Court proceedings.

About the Role

As part of a small team the role is responsible for therapeutic services to individuals, children, couple, and families. Our clients are seeking therapy for issues related to adoption or separation from family.

This position is offered on a permanent part-time basis.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling or equivalent.
  • Eligibility for membership of relevant professional body (e.g., AASW, APS, PACFA).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience providing individual, couple and/or family therapy.
  • Experience in working with adults who have experienced trauma/ and loss.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals, couples, and families with complex issues.
  • Experience in working with children and adults affected by adoption/fostering and family separation.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as to be able to contribute and participate in a small team.

  • Competence in working with issues of family violence.
  • Experience in working with children and adolescents in a therapeutic setting.
  • Knowledge of attachment and trauma.
  • Experience in working within a Family Law context.

Salary Packaging

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) allows Public Benevolent Institutions (PBI), such as arcs, to offer special tax concessions. These concessions allow an employee to salary package a maximum of $14,976 from their gross salary each Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) year.
