Therapists –  Child and Family Service

Location: Cairns 

3 x Part time positions available

The Opportunity:

As a therapist at True’s Child & Family Service in Cairns, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality services to children and their families. You’ll provide confidential trauma-informed counselling and psychoeducation to children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse, problematic sexual behaviours, or harmful sexual behaviours. Your impact extends to non-offending family members, carers, and support networks. Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Offer trauma-informed counselling and psychoeducation in various settings, including in-office, virtual platforms, community spaces, and face-to-face, tailoring your approach to the specific needs of each individual.
  • Culturally sensitive practice for children, young people, non-offending family members, carers, and support networks from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and those with disabilities.
  • Provide personal safety education and safety planning.

Skills We’re Looking For (Selection criteria):

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, or behavioural sciences.
  • Experience in counselling children and family members who have experienced trauma.
  • Knowledge of working within or in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, organizations, and people.
  • Possession of a positive ‘Working with Children Check’ Blue card.
  • A proven ability to understand appropriate legislation, best practice guidelines, and policies and procedures related to child sexual abuse and child protection.
