Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region. What you’ll be doing
This primary purpose of the Towards Zero Suicide Service Manager is to manage and develop the Towards Zero Suicide (TZS) Services, namely Safe Haven and the Suicide Prevention Outreach Team (SPOT). Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) delivers two TZS suicide prevention services, Safe Haven and SPOT. Both services aim to provide an alternative to presenting to Emergency Department for people experiencing suicidal distress or in suicidal crisis. Safe Haven is a non-clinical drop-in service operationalised by a team of Peer Workers with lived experience of suicide. SPOT provides mobile outreach by a team of Peer Workers and Senior Mental Health Clinicians (SMHC). Both services have been co-designed with people with lived experience and health professionals and adopt a compassionate care model to support consumer (also referred to as patients or clients) centric service provisions.

Essential Criteria:
Qualification: Tertiary qualification in relevant mental health related discipline.
Registration: Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Registration or with relevant governing body for Psychology and Occupational Therapy.
Selection Criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications, professional registration/membership as follow, plus demonstrated minimum three years of clinical experience in mental health and/or suicide prevention: • Occupational Therapy – minimum bachelor’s degree and general registration with AHPRA, and extensive specialist knowledge or a high level of broad generalist knowledge. • Social Work – minimum bachelor’s degree and eligibility for membership of AASW, and extensive specialist knowledge or a high level of broad generalist knowledge • Senior Psychologist – a four-year degree in psychology, being a three-year degree with a fourth-year honours in psychology; or qualifications deemed equivalent by the employer, full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia and 9 years’ experience. • Clinical Psychology – master’s degree or higher in clinical psychology plus full registration as a psychologist and endorsement to practice as a clinical psychologist with AHPRA.
- Demonstrated experience as a senior mental health clinician with proven clinical skills in community mental health triage, comprehensive assessments, evidence-based therapeutic interventions, provision of collaborative care and strong working knowledge of the NSW Mental Health Act (2007). Specifically reference any experience working in an Acute setting and/or with people at risk of suicide.
- Demonstrated experience in working with lived experience workforce, including understanding of the voice of lived experience and the role of the Peer Work across the Towards Zero Suicide Initiative
- Ability to initiate, lead, implement broad capacity building or quality improvement initiatives that enable service change to accomplish service goals and/or improve consumer care and outcomes.
- Demonstrated recent experience in leading a multidisciplinary team and supporting a healthy workplace culture, including communication skills to negotiate, motivate change and navigate conflict (resolution) within the workplace.
- Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written, with the ability to give presentations, produce report and brief writing, liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders across all levels of the organisation and community.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision with high level organisational skills, strong time management strategies, as well as problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Self-sufficiency in computing including ability to work with the Microsoft Office suite, current NSW Driver’s License minimum P2.
