JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Trauma & Bereavement Counsellor – Homicide Victims Support Group incorporating Grace’s Place

JOB TYPE:  Full time and Part time available

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • to provide counselling services to clients affected by homicide – via face-to-face counselling at Grace’s Place or in client’s home – via Zoom or other AVL – via telephone
  • to provide court support and advocacy at the NSW Supreme Court, State Parole Authority hearings, Mental Health Review Tribunal hearings etc.
  • to facilitate Support Meetings at locations around NSW
  • to facilitate the administration and running of the 24 hour support line, including after hours on-call back up to volunteer telephone workers
  • to co-facilitate Therapy Weekends for clients affected by homicide
  • to liaise and collaborate with allied services e.g. NSW Police, Victims Services, Victims Registers, Office of Director of Public Prosecutions
  • to participate in ongoing HVSG advocacy and development projects

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

Qualifications:  Tertiary qualifications in Counselling

Experience:

Essential

  • Some experience in counselling – children or adults
  • Life experience

Desirable

  • Experience in grief & trauma counselling 
  • Experience in working with children  
  • Experience in working with victims of crime
  • Experience in telephone counselling e.g. Lifeline 

Skills: 

  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work empathetically within expectations and principles of the organisation, while maintaining firm professional boundaries 
  • Advanced self-awareness and practice of self-care strategies
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to maintain confidential case notes
  • Ability to manage an ongoing caseload
  • Ability to work autonomously, but also collaboratively as a member of a team
  • Ability to work with and supervise volunteers
  • Competent computer/database skills
  • Current full NSW Drivers Licence

Salary: As per SCHCADS Award – level commensurate with experience
