Trauma and grief counsellor AMBER COMMUNITY INCORPORATED

JOB DESCRIPTION

Part-Time Trauma and Grief Counsellor

Work in a small, passionate team to help us make a difference.

About us

Amber Community (formerly Road Trauma Support Services Victoria) is a not-for-profit organisation contributing to the safety and wellbeing of road and transportation users. We provide counselling and support to people affected by transport-related trauma and address the attitudes and behaviours of road users through education.

In working to deliver our purpose, we provide free, professional face-to-face, telephone and online counselling services across Victoria to people who have been affected directly or indirectly by a transport incident. Our clients include bereaved families, friends, colleagues, injured people, carers, drivers and passengers. We also support those first on the scene, including witnesses, citizens who offered assistance, and emergency service workers.

As we engage people with lived experience, we are able to provide several support options including peer support activity groups. Further, we deliver a range of education programs addressing the behaviours and attitudes of drivers in order to minimise the incidence of crashes and thereby reducing fatalities, physical and mental injuries and grief.

About the role

We are seeking a part-time Counsellor (30.4 hours per week/4 days) to join our team. This role provides the opportunity to be a part of a dynamic team of dedicated and experienced trauma and grief counsellors who offer short- and long-term support and counselling in a state-wide service that genuinely makes a difference.

Specific responsibilities include intake and triage of referrals, providing information, support, short- and long-term counselling. The role requires that you work within the counselling team to ensure that our services and programs are accessible, unified and effective.

The existing counsellors at Amber Community are skilled and dedicated. They care about the work we do, support each other and are very keen to have a new member join the team.

About you

You will be an experienced counsellor who is passionate about offering a genuine client-centred practice. You will be able to work independently and contribute to the counselling team’s overall day-to-day tasks and responsibilities. You will have had a minimum of three years’ experience working directly with people who have experienced trauma and you will have worked extensively with bereaved clients.

You will have a sound theoretical understanding of the impact of trauma, traumatic grief and the ability to develop strong therapeutic relationships with various clients. You will be inclusive of different communities such as CALD, LGBTQI and people with a disability.

You will be proactive with your self-care needs to ensure your wellbeing and subsequent service delivery that is consistent and of high quality.  You will actively participate in professional development, supervision, seek support and feedback when needed and required.

If you are interested in applying for this role, please contact Renee Brauer, Manager of Counselling and Support Services at Amber Community, on 03 8877 6900 or email [email protected] to obtain a position description. Applications close at 5.00 pm Friday 4 November 2022
