Part-Time Trauma and Grief Counsellor
ABOUT US
Amber Community (formerly Road Trauma Support Services Victoria) is a not-for-profit organisation contributing to the safety and well-being of road users. We provide counselling and support to people affected by road related trauma and address the attitudes and behaviours of road users through education.
To deliver our purpose, we provide free, professional face-to-face, online and telephone counselling across Victoria to people who have been impacted by a road incident. Our clients include bereaved families, friends and colleagues, injured people and carers. We also support drivers, passengers, people who were first on the scene, witnesses, citizens who offered assistance, and emergency service workers.
Through the active engagement of people who have personal experience in the effects of crashes on their and others’ lives, we can offer several support options, including peer support. In addition, we deliver a range of education programs addressing the behaviours and attitudes of drivers to reduce the incidence of crashes, injuries and fatalities and the associated trauma and grief.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently seeking a part-time Counsellor (15.2 hours, two days per week) to join our dynamic team of dedicated, skilled and experienced trauma and grief counsellors who offer support and counselling in a state-wide service that genuinely cares and makes a difference. The successful applicant will be primarily responsible for providing information, emotional support, short- and long-term counselling, intake and referral to people impacted by a road incident.
The role requires the ability to consistently work with people who have experienced trauma and grief. We seek counsellors who feel comfortable and secure working with distressed clients and who can effectively manage and protect their own well-being and the welfare of their clients. The role also contributes to the safety and well-being of Victorian road users through educating the general public, key stakeholders and raising awareness about the impact of road trauma on individuals, families and communities.
ABOUT YOU
We are seeking a qualified and experienced counsellor who is professional and passionate about offering genuine client-centered support and quality service delivery. You will need to be able to work independently, while still contributing to the counselling team. Ideally, you will have direct experience working with people who have suffered a traumatic incident and have worked extensively with bereaved clients.
The role requires that you have a sound theoretical understanding of the impact of trauma and traumatic grief and the ability to develop strong therapeutic relationships with clients.
