A brief snapshot about this exciting opportunity: 

An exciting opportunity exists in the Mildura and Swan Hill region to work with CatholicCare Victoria. 

CatholicCare Victoria has entered a Service Level Agreement with Foundation House Victoria for the delivery of torture and trauma counselling and advocacy related services, combined with community liaison and capacity development, across the Mallee region for people with a refugee background and asylum seekers. 

Working as a Trauma and Torture Counsellor Advocate you will deliver effective and appropriate assessment, counselling and advocacy services to clients who are survivors of torture or other traumatic events.

The Community Liaison function of this role will focus on enhancing the capacity of refugee and asylum seeker communities and the service sector to address family, mental health and wellbeing and re-settlement related issues of community members.

Specifically, the position is responsible for:

  • Conducting comprehensive psycho-social assessments with adults and their families to formulate case plans within the Integrated Trauma Recovery Service Model.
  • Providing high quality short, medium and long-term counselling interventions with adults and their families utilising a range of therapeutic approaches to deliver agreed client and program outcomes.
  • Undertaking advocacy and liaison on behalf of adults and their families to strengthen access to a range of relevant statutory bodies, health, community, education, and legal services.

If you have the below skills & experience – we would love to hear from you! 

  • Qualifications in Counselling, e.g. Psychology, Family Therapy, Counselling Graduate Diploma or other relevant tertiary studies.
  • Experience or capability in working with refugee and asylum seekers and their families within the social services sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering child centered, family focused and relationship counselling within current research-based industry accredited frameworks.
